Nick was 7 yrs old when diagnosed with a brain tumor on May 14, 2015. He had surgery the next day which resulted in a partial resection and leaving 5-10% left behind. He also suffered from a hypoxic brain injury (loss of oxygen to the brain) and he didn’t wake up for 2 weeks. Nick is so strong and has overcome many things since then, like an internal shunt placed, trach put in to secure his airway, a g-tube surgery for feeding, bronchoscopy and 6 months in the hospital before ever being able to come home. We don’t know how much Nick understands, but we know there are many things he does and will give us a big smile. He communicates to us by smiling, raising his eyebrows and facial expressions.
Due to the brain injury they haven’t treated the remaining tumor and they won’t unless he would show more neurological function and that is so very hard. It’s now been about 10 1/2 months since diagnosis and we don’t know what our future holds, but we try to make the best of each day and always pray for a miracle. Any day that Nick is comfortable and smiles, is a great day for us. He is our Hero and we are so very proud of him!!!!! Nick loves the Avengers and Hulk being his favorite 😊 He also loves when his little sister Mia lays in bed and reads to him 😊
Thank you for all you do and bringing awareness to pediatric cancer!!!!!
