Andrea and Joe Sjoblom
My name is Andrea Sjoblom. My husband, Joe, and I both grew up in Lake Orion, have been married for 15 years, and have four wonderful children 13, 12, 8, 4. Like many families, we’ve experienced hardships and have had to overcome several obstacles. However, our poor children have had to endure more than most adults do in a lifetime!
Our story really started three years ago. My little sister Sam unexpectedly passed away of an aortic aneurysm at the age of 26! Joe and I took her two children into our home doubling our family size. At the time the children were 13 months and five years old and over the past several years we’ve been able to provide for them a stable loving family environment.
In April 2016, I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer. As of today, I have undergone several rounds of chemo therapy, a bilateral mastectomy, and several other surgeries that come along with this type of cancer. I am currently in the last stages of my treatment, praise the Lord! I’m hoping that by the end of May I will be done with all my IV medications/chemo. I’m hoping, by the end of July, I should be done with my reconstruction. I just recently started feeling strong enough to go back to work and have started working part-time.
My husband and I were so excited that our cancer journey was almost over…. only it’s not! Joe was diagnosed just recently with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma large B cell, an extremely rare and aggressive cancer. His specific lymphoma makes up less than 3% of all lymphomas. We met with an oncologist and they have no reason to believe that he will not make a full recovery, but they did say it’s going to be an extremely difficult course of treatment. Not only is it a devastating medical blow to our family, but a financial one as well. Joe owns a small business and has been the main support of our family.
This has been very difficult and stressful for all four of our children! As an adult, it’s difficult to wrap your head around all this mind-bending chaos; I can’t imagine having to be a child/young teen facing so much tragedy so early on.
Please pray for our family as we continue yet another crazy journey. We are completely blessed to have such an amazing support group, we know we are definitely not walking this fight alone, and are appreciative to everybody who is standing beside us.
