Julie Greene: The Inspiration! A Survivor!

In October 2008, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. I was 43 years old and my life would be forever changed. At first came the shock of the diagnosis and then the dread of telling my husband and 12 year old daughter. I would be fighting for my life and I needed them. I also needed my work family at Okeeheelee Middle School. They were with me every step of the way with support, prayers and encouragement. I ended up having surgery and 6 months of intense chemotherapy. As part of my recovery, I started walking and jogging to strengthen my body. Brian and his young Road Warriors were always there with running  advise and positive  messages that helped me through training for my first half marathon 6 months after I completed treatment.

When I found out that they planned on running from Florida to Michigan to raise money and awareness for colon cancer, I was honored. The fact that these athletes would train so hard to run over 1300 miles for people affected by this killer disease is amazing. It is a cancer that is striking more and more people under the age of 50, and is over 90% preventable with proper screening. I will be there on June 9th with my entire family to see the Road Warriors off on their run and praise them  for their commitment and dedication.  When you get cancer you are given the gift of seeing the things that really matter in life. Moments matter, laughter and happiness matter, memories matter, people matter. The Road Warriors  get it too. They know how important it is to help others and make a difference. I thank them!

Cancer Healing Testimonials! the power of a raw food plant based diet!

Cancer healing testimonies through raw food and freshly-extracted vegetable juices
as well as through the center part of the “Budwig diet”
compiled by Healing Cancer Naturally

Colon cancer healing
by Rev. George H. Malkmus, author of God’s Way to Ultimate Health and inventor of the Hallelujah Acres diet

“It has now been more than 20 years since the doctor told me I had colon cancer [a tumor about the size of a baseball had been found underneath his left rib cage]. When I first heard the word “cancer,” it struck terror in me. I was scared because I knew what I was facing. As a pastor, I had sat at the bedside of many cancer victims and conducted their funerals throughout my ministry. And I had recently watched my own Mother die a slow, torturous death after her colon cancer was treated with chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Refusing to subject my body to those same medical treatments that I felt had helped kill my Mom, I sought an alternative.

Fortunately, I had a preacher friend in Texas by the name of Lestor Roloff who encouraged me to simply change my diet [to a vegetarian regime composed largely of raw fruits and vegetables] and lifestyle and drink lots of freshly extracted carrot juice! It sounded too simple, but, I took his advise… drastically and overnight changed my diet and lifestyle and almost immediately started to get well!

Within one year, not only was my cancer gone, but so were all my other physical problems. These included high blood pressure, severe sinus and allergy problems, hemorrhoids, hypoglycemia, fatigue, pimples… even body odor and dandruff!”

Emphasizing the wisdom of the Genesis 1:29 diet of raw fruits and vegetables handed down to mankind in the Garden of Eden story, Rev. Malkmus teaches that God created our bodies to be self-healing, and that this healing works best when we give our bodies nutrition in the form of raw foods as God intended. Rev. Malkmus teaches that the more mankind strays from the original Genesis 1:29 diet of raw fruits and vegetables, the more likely sickness is to occur. He emphasizes that raw fruits and vegetables are the foods by which our Creator intended us to be nourished and sustained in perfect health, and that Genesis also states that God intends us to earn this food by “the sweat of thy face” (exercise).

He also reminds Christians that our bodies are the “temple of God,” and that, “If any man defile the temple, him shall God destroy. . . .” “All healing must come from within the body as we give the body the proper building materials with which to heal itself. Our body is a living organism made up of living cells, and living cells require living food (raw food) to function properly. All cooked food is dead food and devoid of almost any nutrition.” “I have also learned that the fastest way to restore the body to wellness is not through the eating of raw food alone, but also by consuming large quantities of raw, freshly-extracted vegetable juices. The juices do not heal. But what they do is provide the body with concentrated building materials so the body can heal itself. The first part of the body that will restore when given the proper nutrients is the immune system. As the immune system restores, then it seeks out the trouble spots throughout the body and starts to heal them. And it doesn’t matter what the symptoms are, the body is self-healing when we stop the offense and provide the body cells with the proper building materials,” Malkmus concludes.

Warning signs!!

10 Warning Signs of Colon Cancer
Aug 11, 2011 | By Leigh A. Zaykoski Leigh Zaykoski has been a writer and editor for six years. Her medical writing has appeared on dozens of websites. According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2005 over 141,000 people were diagnosed with this disease. Colon cancer can cause a number of changes that affect the digestive organs. Knowing the ten warning signs of colon cancer can help people identify causes for concern and help them get diagnosed as early as possible, leading to more positive outcomes.

Blood in Stool
Blood in the stool is one of the warning signs of colon cancer. The blood may be bright red and clearly visible after each bowel movement. Blood may also be black, causing the stool to take on a tarry appearance. Blood cannot always be seen in the stool, so a fecal occult blood test may be performed to determine if there is hidden blood.

While colon cancer may be asymptomatic in its early stages, tumor growth can cause changes in bowel habits. Someone who never had a problem with diarrhea may develop persistent diarrhea that does not clear up within a few days. Diarrhea that does not go away should be reported to a physician for evaluation.

Persistent Vomiting
The growth of a tumor in the colon can cause nausea and vomiting. This is because the tumor can cause pressure on the abdominal organs. Vomiting that does not go away after a few days should be evaluated by a medical professional. Diagnostic tests, such as a CT scan or x-ray, may be used to determine if a tumor is present.

Cramping Abdominal Pain
The pressure of a tumor growing in the intestine can cause cramping abdominal pain. Because abdominal pain can accompany a number of other conditions, it should be evaluated by a physician if it continues over a long period of time. Laboratory or diagnostic tests may be used to determine the cause of persistent abdominal pain.

Persistent Bloating
As a tumor grows in size, it can cause persistent bloating. Someone with colon cancer may notice that the abdomen is bloated and rigid instead of soft. Bloating is also associated with premenstrual syndrome, intestinal gas and other conditions, so it needs to be evaluated to determine the cause.

Unexplained Weight Loss
Colon cancer can be signaled by unexplained weight loss. When someone with colon cancer does not feel well, he may decrease his daily food intake. The body continues to use the same amount of calories as usual, creating a calorie deficit. This causes unintended weight loss.

Decreased Stool Size
As digested food moves through intestines, it is shaped into stool. Tumors growing in the colon can make the intestines narrower, which leaves less room for digested food to move. This makes the stools narrower. Pencil-thin stools can be a cause for concern and should be reported to a medical professional.

Unexplained Fatigue
Unexplained fatigue is associated with most types of cancer. While the exact causes of this fatigue are not known, physicians from the Mayo Clinic indicate that there are several things which can contribute to this fatigue. Some cancers release chemicals called cytokines, which are thought to cause fatigue. If the cancer destroys healthy red blood cells, someone with colon cancer can develop anemia. Anemia causes fatigue.

Change in Bowel Habits
Any change in bowel habits should be evaluated by a medical professional to determine the cause. A change in bowel habits can involve more frequent constipation, frequent diarrhea or a change in the number and consistency of bowel movements each day.

Incomplete Emptying of Bowel
After a bowel movement, the bowel should feel empty. If colon cancer is present, it can create a feeling of fullness even after a bowel movement. If this persists, and other signs of colon cancer are present, a medical examination and diagnostic tests should be performed to identify the cause.

2012 Palm100: The Rise Of The Warrior

It was spring break on the Friday before the Palm 100, a 100 mile relay and 62 mile solo run, that the Road Warriors do religiously ever year.  Since it was spring break for the boys and Brian, Ramiro, Brandon, Mattie, Ricky, and Anderson slept over at Brian’s house.

The night before the race we all went down to Fort Lauderdale and sat in the pre race meeting.  Our team was approached by a couple of competitors hoping the best for us.  It felt good to have that kind of support.  I later learned that one of the competitors was a preacher so i believe now, that we may have had some higher power watching over us.

The Race was delayed by ten minutes so the Relay gun went off at 6:20 am!  Anderson Charles was immediately out in front, setting the tone for a blistering day on the course.  The Road Warriors have worked together for the last three years and wanted to make the competitors think about the challenge that was set before all of them and they wanted to make them think about it right off the bat!

The Relay team took first place with a time of ten hours and sixteen minutes, breaking the course record.  They came to send a message and with three draw bridges, the message was clear The Road Warriors are coming to the Keys 100 to compete: with honor and no mercy!

And the sixty two miler started for me at 6:30 am.  Brian finished the race with a time of 12:49.  Half of the competitor dropped out of the race of did not show up.  It was hot out there on the course this season, but the refreshments were amazing every five miles.

Brian’s team kept him motivated.  Brian knew he would not stop and once he hit mile 57 he knew there was only one thing to do.  pick up speed, run through the blisters, numb out the pain, and find that damn finish line!

With a mile left the team was waiting to run in with Brian.  He had passed ten competitors on the way back and with his team cheering him in the competitor coming up off his shoulder would have to “have more guts” than Brian to pass.

The finish line was met with delirium and ten minutes of vomitting.  Brian  pushed away the metal and water till he could get a grasp on his own mind.  Metallica’s, “For Whom the Bell Tolls” played in his ears as his heart slowed and sanity seeped back into his brain.  Brian had finished 62 miles.  That was the training run for the Keys 100…to be continued!

Ricky Montez’s 120 mile week

I’m currently on day 4 of my 120 mile week and although I would love to tell you that I am not weak, vulnerable and incapable of this journey.  I know that it is going to take more than just my mind, my training, my heart. I have all that, I am very confident in my teammates and myself.  I see something inside each and everyone of them.  God has his hand on each and everyone of us. I am very outspoken about my relationship with my Lord and savior because of the countless miraculous events in my life.  We will only make this journey if it’s in His will.  I remember last year on day 3 of my run to Jacksonville, I had trained so hard that I was beat up on day 1, but day 3 mile 11, my knee was in excruciating pain, I literally winced and teared up for 9 miles.  I had been beaten.  I was not gonna make it to Jacksonville.  I remember asking everyone to pray for me, my mother of course wanted me to stop.  I sat there and prayed as the rain came pouring down the next day.  I remember my knee which just hours ago had its own heartbeat, was now feeling fresh.  I just thought the pain was coming and going.  I set off with a goal of 5 miles, maybe ten if  I could make it.  I finished my 20 miler that day and never, not once, felt pain for the next 9 days after.  It was then I knew it wasn’t me who made it to Jacksonville, It was We that made it!

The Daily Mutation

The mind and body are extraordinary if you pay attention to what is going on.  I find that as you train in these extreme realms you become more aware of the magic that happens inside and out.  I have noticed that my body and mind are pretty much in a type of hybernation during the day or before training.  I feel like my muscles and joints are rusted over and tight.  My mind is working but only partially.  The synapses just aren’t as active as when i am in the middle of a run.  Once i start on a run the muscles and joints seem to be lubricated and polished.  I feel normal while i am running and for awhile after.

I finished a run tonight at one of my favorite sushi bars, Sushi Bon, on Ocean Ave.  I started to feel this waking of the mind and body as i started my run and it came to me that my Sister, Sergio, and my Mom where going to be at Sushi Bon, where i had planned to stop my run.  I ran by and looked over from the far side of the road.  I did not see them.  I thought my telepathic powers must have been a farce made up in the folds of my brain.  when i came back through, about thirty minutes later, they were sitting there eating.  RUNNING HAS MADE ME TELEPATHIC!

Meeting up with family at the end of the run is the best way to do it!  Stephanie knows what i am talking about.
